UNDERSTANDING DEMOGRAPHIC DATA
| Objectives | To develop participants' understanding of the demographic data framework and the processes which shape the population and will include practical exercises in the analysis of demographic data. |
| Who should attend | People with an interest in Australia's changing population and society and those who want to use demographic data to inform debate, analysis and commentary on population issues. |

- how the ABS produces population estimates and projections and the relationship between this data and the Population Census;
- the components of population growth - birth, deaths and migration;

ANALYSING SURVEY DATA MADE SIMPLE
| Objectives | A computer-based course that aims to develop knowledge of descriptive statistics used when analysing data. |
| Who should attend | People who want to increase their knowledge of basic statistical analysis. |
| Course benefits | Increased understanding of:
- univariate and bivariate analysis - mean, median, graph, distribution, histograms, variance/standard deviation, normal distributions;
- survey sampling - weighting, estimation (including differences, movements and ratios), standard error, confidence intervals, significance testing.

INTRODUCTION TO SAMPLING TECHNIQUES
| Objectives | The course introduces statistical techniques and concepts used in the design and analysis of sample surveys. |
| Who should attend | People who need to design and conduct a sample survey, or who wish to gain an understanding of how a sample is selected to meet survey objectives. |

MAKING QUALITY INFORMED DECISIONS
| Objectives | The course introduces the concept of 'holistic quality' through the use of a data quality framework for a statistical collection. The framework ensures that users of statistics are able to assess whether the statistics are fit for their intended use. |
| Who should attend | People who use statistics in decision-making and who want to understand how to evaluate the appropriateness of a particular statistical collection.
People who are involved in producing statistics and who want to ensure that these statistics are used appropriately. |

| Who should attend | People who need to design and conduct a survey, and wish to gain an understanding of how to design a questionnaire that will collect information accurately and concisely. |

- ability to define the survey's objectives and use appropriate collection methods;
